PDF Print E-mail
It has been a generally accepted notion in the business world that Microsoft Office is the standard suite of software to be used when creating documents and spreadsheets.  For users that are seeking simple work processing and spreadsheet programs, Google is offering an attractive alternative.

Google has launched Google Docs , which offers users free word processing and spreadsheet creation capabilities.  One attractive feature from this Google product is that the entire application is online.  This means that you can log into your account and work on your documents from any computer that has an internet connection. It is also possible for users to export documents created in Google Docs to conventional Microsoft Office formats.

Online applications like Google Docs are interesting solutions for people that do not want the hassle of installing a huge desktop publishing suite like Microsoft Office, but still want to be able to create rich documents.  Students and travelling professional will also find this solution of value as their documents follow them anywhere they go.

Also of mention is a service call Gliffy .  This is an online flowcharting application that creates charts much like Microsoft Visio.  Like Google Docs, you can access and work on documents on any internet capable computer.

Online applications are truly on the rise, so next time you find yourself thinking that you "need" to install Microsoft Office, think again.  Free solutions with many features that you require are popping up everywhere and often absolutely free.
