How to use a search engine to find the song title If you were lucky enough to remember a few words in the song, the best way to find the title is to type those lyrics into a search engine like Google followed by the word "lyrics". There are many sites out there that specialize in providing users with lyrics to tons of songs and Google will check your search against these databases. As an example, let's say you were looking for a song that has "put up a parking lot" in the lyrics, but you can't find the title to that song, you would search for: "put up a parking lot" lyrics Google would return the following results The first result shows us the title of the song which is "Big Yellow Taxi" by Counting Crows. But what if the song you heard was sung by a woman? This is where you would cross reference your search. Use the title of the song as a new base for your search and now use a special operator to tell Google to ignore all results that contain the name of the group. Your query would look something like this: "Big Yellow Taxi" -"Counting Crows" lyrics Notice the use of the hyphen (-) right before the group? That tells Google and many other search engines to exclude the next phrase or keyword. Here are the results So now you have a list of all the artists that have performed that song that are not from the group that you have excluded. To find out if a specific artist is the one that you have on the radio, you can use the trial and error method. Use a Youtube search to find a video for the song so that you can sample it and see if that is the exact song that you are looking for. For example, you could search Google like this to find the video: "Big Yellow Taxi" "Amy Grant" youtube Just click the link and check to see if that song is what you were looking for.
