Here's a quick trick that I've been using to increase my productivity and expand my business and technology knowledge. A lot of people listen to the radio or listen to music everyday while they are working. They have their earphones plugged in and listen to the latest hits. Realistically, you have access to 4 to 5 hours of solid listening time that you could be using for learning.
To stay on top of the latest events in my fields of interest, I listen to Podcasts on technology, security and business. Here are some Podcasts in my playlist: http://podcast.neo1seo.com/ The Beginning SEO Podcast A collection of Internet marketing Podcasts. They have and archive so you can get all caught up with the latest happenings in the world of Search Engine Optimization and web marketing http://www.twit.tv/SN Security Now with Steve Gibson Discussions on online and offline computer security . Steve Gibson is a brilliant man with a keen mind for dissecting computer systems. Truly an interesting listen. http://www.twit.tv/twit This Week in Tech Open board discussions about anything that has happened in the technology sector in the last week. Hosted by Leo Laporte and a wide array of different panelists, this show is both funny and informative. How to Find Podcasts Just go on Google and search for Podcast + your topic. So if you're interested in cars, then you searcch for Podcast + Cars. To listen, you don't need and iPod or an MP3 player. You simply go on a site and download the MP3 file to your computer. Once downloaded, you can play the file in your favorite media program. Some sites even let you play the file directly from your browser window. Another great way to find and listen to Podcasts is to use iTunes. Download iTunes from Apple's site, create an account and log in. You can search for Podcasts using the iTunes Podcast interface. Simply subscribed to a Podcast and every new issue of a certain show can be automatically downloaded to your computer. Audio Books Another great way to stay informed and stay learning is to download to and listen to audio books. I listen to books on business, and personal growth while I work. Sometimes I'll listen to a book two times over, just to make sure that I understand everything that was read to me. Conclusion Don't waste your time! There are tons of ways for you to continue growing and learning, even if you are working or doing something else. I have personally found that listening to such shows and books really makes my day go by faster, and moreover, makes me a better informed employee in the process!
