How To Blog Anywhere

PDF Print E-mail

Sudden inspiration can hit you absolutely anytime and anywhere.  Trying to store an article or blog post idea in your head when you already have so many other things to remember can be quit difficult.  Here are some blogging tips for people on the go.

Hard Copy Blogging

It doesn't matter where you are, you should always have access to a pen and paper.  Jot down the key points of your blog post idea.  In highschool, we used to have to create outlines for essays and compositions, so use these concepts.  Write down your main idea, any hooks or catchy headlines you want to use in your post. Research sources like newpaper articles and websites should also be noted.  Divide a sheet of paper into various sections

  1. Headline ideas
  2. Points to discuss
  3. Sources and references
  4. Goals of the article
Jot down all the information and ideas that you have.  Once it's out of your head and down on paper,  the chances of you forgetting are much less.  Moreover, since you got it down on paper, the article is now more real.  It's a tangible asset; something for you to take care of; thereby adding to the probability that you will complete the article when you get a chance.

Voice Blogging

If you don't have time to write, how about leaving yourself a voicemail message?  Sounds silly right?  Journalists and authors often carry around personal voice recorders to take notes or conduct interviews.  You don't need to buy a personal voice recorder: simply use your cell phone!  Leave yourself a voicemail message detailing information and notes about your blog post idea.  When you get home, simply reply the message and start plugging away.

SMS Blogging

A good idea for when you're in a meeting.  Send yourself a short text message using your cellphone with all the information you'll need to write that blog entry.  You will probably become proficient in short form writing because of text message length limitations, but this gets the job done.

Email Blogging

If you're on the go, or in a hurry, you can start your blog entry by sending yourself an email message with the beginnings of your article.  When you absolutely have to stop and go, hit the send button.  A cool advantage for this is that you can pick up that mail message on any Internet connected computer and carry on your work.  When you're all done, copy the completed article to your site.

Google Docs Blogging

Google Docs is an absolutely wonderful way to blog on the go.  Let's say you began a blog post at lunch, and want to finish it later on in the evening at a local internet cafe, then just log into Google Docs, retrieve your document and continue writing.  An added bonus is that you can use Google Docs as a backup for your Blog.  If you use Google Docs exclusively as your content creation tool, then all the articles you create will be saved and backed up on Google servers.

Conclusion

It's just good practice get ideas out of your head when you can't take care of them immediately.  These different methods will help you clear your mind for other important things, and will contribute to the quality of your blog in the longterm.
